The OSPA, an optical S-parameter analyzer released by FiberWork Optical Communications, is a platform for characterizing passive optical devices during R&D and production. It is used for fiber Bragg gratings, interference filters, arrayed waveguide gratings, dispersion compensators, optical multiplexers and demultiplexers, short lengths of fiber and photonic crystal fiber devices. Parameters simultaneously measured include phase, time delay, chromatic dispersion, reflectivity, transmissivity, bandwidth, polarization mode dispersion, and insertion, return and polarization-dependent loss. Features include theoretical curve-fitting routines, swept- and stepped-wavelength operation modes, an integrated optical bench and a Windows-based interface. The device operates in the S-, C- and L-bands and provides temperature and vibration stability.
