FiberWork releases the FWL Family of Optical Telephony Systems
19/2/2004
February 19th, 2004 Campinas-Brazil and San Jose-CA - FiberWork Optical Communications is releasing the FWL Family of Optical Telephony Systems, for high quality voice communication through optical fibers. The equipments permit communication between field technician and engineers during installation, testing and maintenance of fiber networks, and the communication between company offices located up to 180 km apart. This equipment improves service quality and fast return its investment, through reducing operational costs with alternative solutions, such as mobile phone use and leasing of private telecom lines etc..
The FWL Family comprises three product lines, serving different applications and market needs. Its innovative differential of connection to Public Switched Telephony Networks and PABX systems open up a broad range of applications such as: conference call between field operators and the company's office; communication between field technicians; private telephony line; service channel; remote PABX etc.. Moreover, it is also recommended for applications in hazardous environment (explosion risk classified areas, high electromagnetic interference etc.). It brings savings with long-distance phone calls and with mobile phone bills.
The FWL uses advanced digital communication techniques and full duplex communications through a single fiber. It can be configured to operate with singlemode (long distance) or multimode (short distance) optical fiber, in any of the 1550nm, 1310nm or 850nm windows, using high performance LASER's or LED's. According to FiberWork's director, Dr. Sergio Barcelos, the main advantages in using these equipments are revenue increase, due to OPEX reducing during field services. The ROI is measured in a few months.
FWL Family Lines:
The "FWL210 Optical Talk Set" is a compact and robust portable equipment developed specially to voice communication between field technician during installation, testing and maintenance of fiber networks. It offers options of local and remote connection to Public Switched Telephone Network and PABX, allowing advantages such as: conference call between field operators and company's office, external remote calls, mobile phone bill reduction etc.. The use of the FWL210 replaces radio communication and walkie-talkies, which are affected by RF interference and low QoS.
The "FWL220 Optical Telephone" is a telephone system for high quality inter-office voice communication through optical fibers focused in customers that owns spare dark fibers. It allows integration of widely spread offices, buildings, industrial plants and road emergency points into a single private telephony system. This innovation expands the customer telephony plant without the need of leasing electrical channels from telecom carriers or investment in layers and sub-layers of telecom equipment. The customer can use its own fiber or lease/buy dark fiber, which has become largely available at decreasing costs.
In contrast to other equipments, the "FWL250 Optical Service Channel" was developed to be utilized in optical network's nodes during tests and maintenance of telecom networks. It enables simultaneous communication between all network sites using just an optical fiber. The FWL250 can be set for multiple simultaneous calls or for point to point communication.
