February 21st, 2005 Campinas-Brazil and San Jose-CA - FiberWork Optical Communications is specialized in developing and providing innovative cost-effective fiber optic solutions. The OSPA characterizes optical devices such as Fiber Bragg Gratings, interference filters, AWG´s, dispersion compensators, optical multiplexers and demultiplexers, photonic crystal fiber devices etc. It measures optical parameters such as phase, time delay, chromatic dispersion, reflectivity, transmissivity, PDL and DGD/PMD.

OSPA's technology is considerably superior than its market competitors. Some of its differentials are: no limitation by device length; simultaneous measurements in transmission and reflection; external tunable laser solution; compatibility with swept and stepped (old and new) tunable laser technologies; all parameters measured in a single wavelength scan; multi-port device characterization; theoretical curve fitting etc. It is intended towards time and cost savings during device development, production and qualification stages.

According to FiberWork's chief technology officer, Dr. Sérgio Barcelos, OSPA´s competing solutions work only with a specific tunable laser, what restrains their applications and dramatically increase the price of the full measurement system. On the other hand, the OSPA´s ability to work with any tunable laser, old or new, swept or stepped, allow small labs as well as big companies to afford the investment.

Dr. Sérgio Barcelos says that the OSPA is for the photonics the same as the oscilloscope is for the electronics - the OSPA is basically a "photonic oscilloscope". "Consequently, in a stated period of 10 years, with the growth of the photonics sector, it is probable that the OSPA market reaches the equivalent size of the market of electronic oscilloscopes has today", antecipates Barcelos.

The FWL210 Optical Talk System is a cost-effective instrument for voice communication over a single fiber, with a 180km reach and a broad range of applications. Its portable version is intended for use by field technicians during installation, testing and maintenance of fiber networks. Its differentials include local and remote connection to Public Switched Telephone and PABX networks, external and remote calls from field sites, mobile and satellite phone bill reduction, plug-and-play solution and no need of expensive intermediate equipment layers for voice communication.

Fiber Network Diagnostics are specialized and innovative services created by FiberWork that go much further than just field measurements. It comprises detailed field data acquisition and their in-depth analysis by expert PhD professionals. The outcome is a set of recommendations intended towards network design optimization, capex and opex savings, better exploitation of fiber transmission capacities and future-proofing the network.
